Re: Anything interesting? [English only!]
Pascal ha scritto: Arya, are you sure that British person wasn't from Hull?? It was really funny, I was at the Business desk (France-Holland flights) when this suited up man showed up. "Buongiorno, where are you going to?" "Sorry?" "Are you going to Paris, Sir?" "No, Amsterdam" (I can't even write the phonetic word 'cause it sounded like... chinese) Ok.. maybe I'm tired, I woke up at 3:45.. I ate anything, just a coffee.. but I cannot understad a word without asking to repeat at least one time more. Then, the most importante question of my work, the "check-in agent song".. "Which seat to you prefere, Sir, window seat or aisle seat?" Silence. Fear. Awkwardness. I swear, I had to show him the seat map, showing him the seats available and where was the window and where the aisle. We were like Gianni and Pinotto.

Re: Anything interesting? [English only!]
So he didn't understand you either? .... I told you he was from Hull! (sorry, that was naughty of me again). Always check where they come from! Then you can decide which accents you like and which ones you hate I remember when I went to Oxford for the first time -- I was shocked because even the poor homeless who sell Big Issue had this gorgeous, almost RP accent Conversely, I know a few academics from Hull with the worst East Yorkshire accent! Ben doesn't have much of an accent, but you can still tell he's from somewhere up North. Our groom Caroline, from Southampton, had the most perfect accent. Scouse would need a whole essay devoted to it... they say it's one third Welsh, one third Irish and one third catarrh But I love it! While, for example, I can't stand Geordie.

Re: Anything interesting? [English only!]
first of all, i'm alive!!! i was aghast of it! and maybe that isn't a very good news for you... concerning accents, i definitely hate how american english sounds, especially when they say 'wader' instead of water... but i must admit british english sounds funny too, when somebody exaggerete its accent! for example a colleague of mine (english teacher) uses to talk as though he were (or should i write "as though he was"? do you need a conjunctive verb with as though?) a 19th century oxonian teacher... and it sucks everybody!!!

Re: Anything interesting? [English only!]
Whohoo you made it! How did it go?? Another reason why I can't stand American E. is the sheer volume -- they are SO loud! And the accent is just wrong Has your colleague studied at Oxford? (yes, subjunctive needed ) Another British accent I can't stand is Essex (think Beckham) I don't like Indian accents either, but that's only because I used to have an Indian housemate and it wasn't a very pleasant experience...

Re: Anything interesting? [English only!]
yeah, i made it! i had been riding his horse for almost half an hour and everything was ok (maybe because he rode him before...), i also jumped (high fences too, i was shaking with fear...) and it was so different from max... but finally it was great! i'm much more confident about sunday now! i don't know if my colleague studied at oxford, never asked him, because he's totally unbearable!!! i always pretend to do something very very important, when he is around me... but my granny was an english teacher and she studied at oxford and a dear freind of mine did it too (she had her PHd in Politics there). i find indian accent funny because it alwasys remind me apu (simpsons charachter)... how is essex accent? i don't know it!

Re: Anything interesting? [English only!]
ah ok, i got the point... even if i can understand american interviewer better than him! seriously i bet i could understand nothing if i came in uk right now... my english is getting worse and worse! i do write and read it, but never talk. and next summer i'm going to ireland where i will visit a friend and work as a groom by her riding teacher (or trainer? how do you say? anyway it should interest you, sele, she was a member of irish dressage team! but don't ask me her name, as i don't know it...).
